The Haven becomes officially registered non-profit organization

August 22, 2019  By Staff

The Haven, set to become Ontario’s first occupational-specific therapy house/retreat for first responders and uniform personnel, is now officially registered with the Canadian Revenue Agency as non-profit organization.

The Haven, supported by its Quebec partner, La Vigile, aims to fill the gaps in the current mental health resources available in the province. Its official business number is: 777251331RC0001.

The Haven will be a medically supervised treatment centre with a mission to provide occupational-specific resources—from the outpatient services of psychologists, to treatment of comorbid mental health issues of addictions, anxiety, depression, PTSD, operational stress injury on an inpatient basis.

“The Haven is going to save lives,” says Michelle Vincent, a York Regional Police officer, director and co-founder of The Haven. “As first responders, we come to the aid of others. Seeking help for ourselves goes against what we are trained to do. Our goal at The Haven is to facilitate the process in both obtaining and delivering occupational-specific programming.”

The Haven also has a brand-new Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thehavenforfirstresponders) and is now actively pursuing funding, especially sponsorships from emergency services associations.

Contributing association members will have unlimited access to the centre without having to go through Ontario’s workplace compensation board and long wait times.

The Haven is on the hunt for a location for its first chapter in the Greater Toronto Area. Stay tuned for a new website and more developments.
