Sarnia Police announce new deputy chief of police

July 9, 2024, Sarnia, Ont. – The Sarnia Police Services Board has selected Insp. Ron Hansen of the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) to be Sarnia’s new deputy chief of police. In Hansen’s most recent command position, he was the inspector of the strategic management officer, where he led several specialist units.

Hansen has 29 years of experience with the HRPS, having a wide range of operational roles in criminal investigations, intelligence, strategic management and frontline operations at rank levels spanning from constable to inspector. Additionally, he was a member of the Ontario Provincial Police-led Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit where he was involved with firearms trafficking investigations.

He has received training in police leadership from Dalhousie University and has completed many specialized training courses. His extensive education and continuous professional development reflect his dedication to advancing his knowledge and skills in law enforcement, the service mentioned in a press release.

“I am honoured and excited to join the Sarnia Police Service as Deputy Chief. I look forward to working with the dedicated members of the Sarnia Police Service and the community to continue advancing our commitment to community safety, innovation, and excellence in policing,” said Hansen.

Deputy Chief Hansen will begin his duties with Sarnia Police Service effective Aug. 8, with a swearing-in ceremony to be held at a later date.
