June 6, 2022, Belleville, Ont. – Loyalist College’s 55th annual convocation began with the announcement of the prestigious Hugh P. O’Neil Outstanding Alumni Award.

This year, the Hugh P. O’Neil Outstanding Alumni Award was presented to Chief Michael Callaghan, a 1984 graduate of the Law and Security Administration program, in recognition of the leadership he has demonstrated throughout his nearly 40-year career.

The Hugh P. O’Neil Award recognizes a graduate of Loyalist College who has made an exceptional contribution to his or her community through professional, community leadership or volunteer service. The award was named after Hugh P. O’Neil in 1998 by the Board of Governors, in honour of his leadership as Chair of the College’s Foundations for the New Millennium Campaign.

“Chief Callaghan is an exceptional ambassador of Loyalist College core values through his distinguished career in policing and tremendous contributions to our community, most notably with the recent partnership which saw the creation of the Belleville Police Service Indigenous Student Bursary,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, President and CEO of Loyalist College.
