Fredericton searches for its next chief of police

July 19, 2024, Fredericton, N.B. – The City of Fredericton is searching for the next chief of police for the Fredericton Police Force, who will be responsible for the administration and operational activities and report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer.

Serving approximately 65,900 residents, the Fredericton Police Force is dedicated to community safety and well-being through proactive engagement and responsiveness to the city’s evolving needs.

“The chief will exemplify the Force’s core values while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to public safety and community engagement. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of the department’s strategic vision, policies, and internal culture in alignment with the N.B. Policing Standards, Police Act and Regulations, as well as developing the department’s annual operating and capital budgets. You will play a crucial role in creating a positive working environment, fostering trust and respect among all stakeholders, and championing a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement where teamwork is valued for transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and collaboration,” said the city in the job posting.

Ideal candidates will have over 10 years of progressive leadership experience leading a police department or a significant division within a large enforcement agency and a Bachelor’s Degree in police science, public administration, criminology, or a related field, and will have operational experience in areas such as patrol, investigations, community policing, and administrative functions.
