Foggy conditions reported when Saskatchewan man killed by RCMP truck

August 31, 2024  By The Canadian Press

Aug. 30, 2024, Turnor Lake, Sask. – Saskatchewan’s police watchdog says Mounties were driving in fog when an officer’s truck hit and killed a man on a road.

The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team says officers were leaving the northern community of Turnor Lake to respond to a call that a man near Buffalo Narrows had been struck by a vehicle.

The agency says the officers, driving two different police trucks, were on their way when one of the vehicles struck a different man on the road.

Mounties and first responders provided first aid, but the 31-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

The agency, which investigates the conduct of officers when a person has died or is seriously injured, says no further details will be released until it issues a report.

RCMP say the officer who hit the man is on wellness leave for 14 days, as per the force’s policy.
